Saul was the maiden name of my G-G-Grandmother Jane Armitage. She was born in Sheffield in 1838, the fifth of seven children born to Robert and Jane Saul of Dronfield. The 1841 census shows Jane and family living at the Nags Head Yard, Sheffield. In 1861 Jane and brother William were living with Brother-in-Law and widower James Marshall in Ecclesall, James was married to their sister Monica who died in the March qtr of 1861 just before the census was taken. On January 1st 1868 Jane married John Armitage at Pitsmoor Parish Church. Jane gave birth to four daughters, Matilda (1869), Ellen (1871), Gertrude (1876) and Edith Annie (1877). The 1871 census shows them living at 66 Trafalgar Street, Sheffield. Her brother William living further up the street at 116 Trafalgar Street. 1881 sees them living at 3 Tilt Yard, Pond Street, Sheffield. The 1891 census show that sometime after husband John's death in 1883, Jane moved to 4ct 8house Bard Street, Sheffield with her daughters. Jane died in 1893.
Robert Saul was my G-G-G-Grandfather, he was born in 1806 and was a Horse Keeper at the Nags Head Yard in Sheffield. Around 1826 he married Jane. Jane died in Sheffield in June 1858.
