My Great Grandmother Edith Annie Armitage was born on 20th September 1877, in Sheffield. The fourth of four daughters born to John and Jane (Saul) Armitage of Sheffield. In 1881, home was at 2 Tilt Yard, Pond Street. Her father died in 1883 when she was just six. Between 1881 and 1891 the family had moved to 4ct 8h Bard Street. 1893 saw the deaths of Edith's mother and sister Gertrude. Edith was 15 years old at the time. What happened to the three remaining sisters isn't clear but in 1897 the oldest sister, Matilda, married James Moulds. Did Edith and Helen live with their elder sister? By 1899, 22 year old Edith was living on Eldon Street, when she married neighbour Harry Colley at their local Parish Church of St. Jude on Christmas Day. James Moulds was witness to their marriage. Edith had seven children, Harry (1900-1901), Sydney (1901-87), Percy (1904), Harry (1906-78) and Gertrude (1912). According to the 1911 census she had two others who had died. No names or ages given though. Between 1900 and 1905, when the first three boys were born, they were living in 53 Ball Street. By 1911 they were residing at 170 Marcus Street, Pitsmoor. Sometime between 1911 and 1915 the family moved back to Eldon Street, to number 52. This was still their address in 1929 when my Grandfather Sydney got married. At the time of her death on 24th July 1955 at Firvale Infirmary, Sheffield, Edith's home was 40 Crumpsall Road, Sheffield. She is buried in Burngreave Cemetery, Pitsmoor, Sheffield.

Both were living in Pitsmoor and they were married at Christ Church, Pitsmoor and their marriage was witnessed by William and Elizabeth Saul. William being the younger brother of Jane. The 1871 census gives their address as 66 Trafalgar Street, Ecclesall Bierlow. They had four daughters, Matilda (1869), Helen (1872), Gertrude (1876-1893) and Edith Annie (1877 - 1955), all girls were born in Sheffield.
