Charlesworth

My Darling Mother

My mum, Jean (Charlesworth) was born in 1939 in Sheffield, the only daughter of five children by Merrill and Florence Charlesworth.

She married Allan Colley in 1959 and between 1960 and 1972 had four children – Allan (moi), Andrew, Denise and Michael. At the time of their marriage she was living in Egerton Lane, Sheffield.

Like most mothers, she’s worked in a variety of jobs throughout her working life with an overwhelming choice of career. Radio assembly operator, wife, shopkeeper, mother, shop assistant, housewife, mother, barmaid, domestic servant, cleaner, Grandmother, babysitter, school taxi, childminder etc. What a woman!

She worked in an Old Peoples Home for many years, mucking out the old folk, until she retired in 1999 to a comfortable life in the South of France away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, just lazing in the sun, drinking wine, eating chocolate.………..End of Dream sequence.

She now has more time to enjoy her nine wonderful grandchildren as created for her by her four equally wonderful children.
