Wild stab in the dark, huge leap of faith time. There isn't any definite proof that James Colley (son of David Colley) is the father of Charles Colley but the pointers suggest it to be so. ie age, location, occupation, continuance of names etc. So I like to think that this is the line of descent. Elme, Colley Elmes and Colley Green are the same place, named after John Colly. I think he was Richard(o)’s brother. The surnames differed depending on which parish clergyman wrote it down. Variants are Colley, Colly, Colleye, Collye, Coleye etc. They wrote what they heard, different dialect, different spelling! It would not stretch the imagination to see Collye pronounced as Collier either.
